Nearly 75% of hygienists and 40% of dentists experience hand and wrist pain. Fewer dental professionals fully recover from hand pain syndromes than they do from pain in the neck & shoulder, so early intervention is essential!
Dr. Valachi brings powerful research to this CE Course that focuses on ergonomic, therapeutic and exercise strategies to help dental professionals prevent hand, wrist & arm pain and extend their careers. Many pain syndromes mimic carpal tunnel syndrome but have an entirely different etiology! Team members will walk away with techniques they can apply immediately in the operatory and at home to work more comfortably and improve quality of life.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of the course, attendees will be able to:
- Implement ergonomic and self-treatment strategies for hand, wrist & arm pain.
- State the risk factors for carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis of the thumb, deQuervains disease, tennis elbow, AIN and thoracic outlet syndrome.
- Identify ergonomic selection criteria for hygiene & dental instruments.
- Discuss the 5 pain syndromes that mimic carpal tunnel syndrome, but have an entirely different etiology.
